Republic of Moldova and the European Union

Because he thinks Moldova’s future is in the European Union, MEP Vlad Gheorghe went today, 26.06.2021, across the Prut river for an open dialogue with teachers from three schools on the possible partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, combating fake news and giving children a chance for a better future through education.

The road to 3 schools in isolated areas showed us even more the importance of the western orientation of Moldova. In other words, a chance for infrastructure, education, health and a prosperous economy. These are aspects that will allow citizens a decent standard of living and confidence in their European future.

„I thank the teachers and students from Cobani, Neculăieuca and Ucrainca schools for receiving us with the traditional bread and salt, for the interesting discussions and for their openness to European principles and values. I also thank our friends from the National Youth Council of Moldova. They put us in touch and made this event possible.

Together with my colleagues in the European Parliament we will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in its efforts to join the great European family. I am confident that we will soon be reunited, as it should be. ”, explains Renew MEP Vlad Gheorghe.

Fight fake news

As we well know, anti-European propaganda based on fake news is very active in Moldova. It is a phenomenon so well known to us, too – especially that of the 90s in Romania, but present today in more converted forms.

It is very important to get involved at the level of small communities and to fight these fakes with real information and concrete actions. And the reality is that the European Union means financial support for Moldovan citizens. It means fundamental rights and freedoms. It means justice and security.

As in the case of Romania, direct dialogue with those who have already lived the Western experience, access to independent information, familiarization with new technologies and direct involvement in the pressing issues of citizens – these are the most important tools to combat the permanent wave of fake news targeted against the European Union and the extraordinary opportunities that the Republic of Moldova will have by choosing the European path.

This is just the first local dialogue and activation initiative. We want to encourage Moldovan citizens to see the European Union as a reliable ally for a better future. Because Moldova’s future is in the European Union.
