Fighting Fake News Manipulations, the MEP Vlad Gheorghe is asking Social Media Giants to find solutions for the online problems: fake news, manipulation and hate promoted by some users.
”I have initiated a consultation with the social media executives because it’s becoming clearer that on the Internet we don’t find just genuine people who want to communicate in a civilized manner, but all sorts of persons that have the intention to manipulate and misinform, and this can harm many persons”, explained Gheorghe.
The MEP is asking Facebook, Twitter and TikTok’s executives to adapt to the new realities. Set filters and politics that are necessary for online safety.
”Cumpanasu’s case and the one about a ten years old girl from Italy found dead after she accepted a TikTok challenge is showing us that we need additional guarantees and probably, new rules”, Vlad Gheorghe declared.
The MEP’s request was made on the Online Safety Day.
Also, on this day Twitter’s executives announced they have permanently suspended Donald Trump’s account even if he’s elected president again. The decision was taken shortly after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol over the risk he would incite violence. Is unlikely that the former president of the United States to be convicted.
Also, the Twitter’s decision regarding banning his account has led to a public debate about the freedom of speech.
